Approved Dyno Jet Tuning Center
We are an approved Dyno Jet Tuning Center. To become a Dyno Jet tuning center a shop must first have a Dyno Jet dyno with load control and exhaust gas analyzer (EGA). After a 6-month period with the new dyno, the shop can send their technicians to Las Vegas for a 2-day hands on training class. To remain an approved tuning center, the shop must always have a Dyno Jet trained tech on staff.
With the training and equipment required to be a tuning center and experience gained from working with the Power Commander we are also able to adjust and tune the other fuel injection modules on the market. We have successfully worked with the HD Race Tuner as well as the DFO and Cobra units.
S&S VFI Tuning Center
We are please to announce that we have completed the required training and are now an approved S&S VFI Tuning Center. The S&S Variable Fuel Injection (VFI) system is only available through certified S&S VFI Tuning Centers, except for units purchased with complete S&S VFI equipped engines. For more information on the S&S Variable Fuel Injection system go to the S&S website.
Power Commander
An engine will flow air at a rate determined by cubic inch, port size and shape, throttle body, carburetor, exhaust, etc., etc. The amount of air the engine ingests through its RPM range can be called an air curve. For this engine to run properly it must have a fuel curve to match the air curve.
Your motorcycle's ECM (Electronic Control Module or "computer") is carefully calibrated by the factory to provide a nice riding motorcycle under widely varying conditions and also meet EPA regulations. If we change the exhaust and air cleaner on our motorcycle or cams and big bore, we have altered the air curve. Now we have to adjust the fuel curve as well, that is, if we want the motorcycle to perform up to our expectations. How do we adjust the fuel injection system? Most if not all motorcycle fuel injection systems are not adjustable. Yes, Harley Davidson has several recalibration cartridges available for their performance upgrades but what if you want something different than what is included in the factory package. What if you want 2 into 1 exhaust instead of slip-ons, or S&S gear drive cams instead of Harley cams, or even an S&S 116 cubic inch kit?
This is where a Power Commander is needed. It is the only add-on fuel injection adjustment module that is truly fully adjustable. Installation is easy, it plugs in with OEM style connectors, no splicing required.
A Power Commander's map table has 9 throttle position columns. The RPM rows are in 500-RPM increments. On a 6,000 RPM Harley Davidson this gives us 108 boxes or "cells" they are called, that can be adjusted richer or leaner. On some models of Power Commanders the ignition timing can be adjusted in each cell also. This gives us complete control over the fuel delivery and the ability to make a new fuel curve. While a Power Commander is not cheap, it is a one-time investment. It will improve the throttle response and rideability of your stock motorcycle and it can be remapped for any and all modifications the motorcycle owner desires in the future.
The EGA feature
The EGA feature of our new dyno makes jetting a carburetor easier also. Previously we had to rely on "seat of the pants" to adjust the low speed and part throttle jetting. Now we can simply read the EGA and adjust the low speed jet quicker and more accurately. To select the correct main jet we still make full throttle roll-on tests and jet for peak horsepower. We also use the dyno to evaluate the performance potential of carbs, cams, exhaust systems, ignition systems, ect. To test, lets say, a pair of slip on mufflers, first we have to run the motorcycle to establish a baseline. We then change the mufflers and make another run. The results of the two runs are compared and in this way we can easily see which pair of mufflers performed the best. The dyno can detect small gains in power that a rider can't. If we can put together several small gains then we will have an increase in performance the rider can feel. As great of a tool as the dyno is, much of our performance package development work is still trial and error.
Our Dyno Service
We dyno test every performance package that we sell and install. In this way we can assure the customer that their motorcycle is producing all the power he or she paid for. While many equate the dyno with highly modified, high horsepower motorcycles, this is not always the case. All of these tuning procedures can be performed on a stock motorcycle equipped with nothing more than an air cleaner, jet kit and slip on mufflers or on a fuel injected motorcycle equipped with a Power Commander. A well-tuned stock motorcycle can be a joy to ride as well as providing excellent fuel mileage.
To have your motorcycle dyno tuned, we charge $65.00 per hour. It takes about and hour on average to tune a carbureted motorcycle. To map a Power Commander or the S&S VFI we charge $300, to adjust a DFO or Cobra it is $150. The Harley Davidson Race Tuner is $500 as it takes twice as long as a Power Commander. To make the most of your dyno time, your motorcycle must be able to make repeated full throttle runs.
